Miami Heat: Big 3 Scary This Year, but Scarier in 2011-2012

Yesterday I went to my second Miami Heat home game of the season, but unfortunately it didn't wind up like the first one I went to. Instead, with Chris Bosh injured, the Heat lost by four points to the Atlanta Hawks, 93-89. The defense, a strong suit for Miami, was there, thanks mainly in part to Joel Anthony, who is now known affectionately in Miami as "The Warden." Anthony gave a yeoman's effort with 16 rebounds, three blocks and one steal while shutting down Hawks center Al Horford (six points, nine rebounds in 21 minutes.) Anthony should be a contender in the NBA's Most Improved Player race, as he has transformed into a defensive stopper despite the fact that he's undersized. But what amazes me about yesterday's game was the fact that they lost by only four, and still had a chance to win, without Chris Bosh. Yes, the same Chris Bosh that was much maligned to start the season. The same Chris Bosh that many thought should've been traded. It was obvious yesterday to any Heat fan that Bosh was the key to the team. He is their low-post threat, and had he played yesterday and been healthy, the Heat would've likely come away with an easy victory. Bosh opens up the paint for LeBron and Wade thanks to his low-post offensive game, which has also improved since last season, and his smooth midrange jumper. He has also shown the ability to hit threes when called upon. The scarier question for the rest of the league is, what would this Heat team be like if everyone was healthy? Mike Miller is still working himself back into game shape. Haslem looks to be out for the playoffs. But what if everyone was healthy at the same time? It could happen in this year's playoffs, something that other teams would dread. But more likely, expect this next season. (Note: this only applies if there isn't a lockout next season.)Read more NBA news on BleacherReport.com
