NBA Free Agent Rumors: Is Wilson Chandler the LA Clippers' Missing Piece?

Blake Griffin, Eric Gordon, Mo Williams, DeAndre Jordan: all the Clippers need is a starting caliber small forward and they may just have a special team. Throw in Eric Bledsoe, Randy Foye, Al-Farouq Aminu and their two rookies coming off the bench and they look great on paper. Former New York Knicks and Denver Nuggets small forward Wilson Chandler may just be the player that could push them back into the Western Conference playoff picture. The Washington Times' Paul Banks mentioned LA as a possible landing spot for Chandler. The wing is only 24 years old and has made huge strides the last couple of years. Chandler was averaging 16.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in NY before being traded to Denver. He also improved his three-point field goal percentage from 26.7 percent in 2009 to 35 percent in 2010. Chandler is a phenomenal athlete that would fit in perfectly with a roster that features Griffin, Gordon, Jordon, and Travis Leslie. He also has tremendous size for the position at 6'8” and every inch counts when you have to play the Lakers four times a year. If the Clippers fill their need at small forward with Wilson Chandler that means that they don't have to trade Chris Kaman for that specific position. They would then have the flexibility of keeping Kaman and having a deep frontcourt or they could just swap him for the best offer they receive. Either way it's a win-win situation for Los Angeles. After adding Chandler, how high of a seed in the West could the Clippers possibly be? Mavericks, Lakers, Spurs, Thunder, Trail Blazers, Memphis…the Clippers could realistically end up not just sneaking into the playoffs, but being the seventh seed in the West. And this signing isn't a pipe-dream either, the Clippers have cap room. LA is very close to returning the postseason for just the second time since 1997. If they make the right moves, they will be back again. David Daniels is a Featured Columnist at Bleacher Report and a Syndicated Writer. Follow him on Twitter.
