NBA Trade Rumors: LA Lakers Targeting Chris Paul and Deron Williams

NBA Rumors Say LA Lakers More Interested In Chris Paul And Deron Williams Than Dwight HowardAccording to the New York Daily News, the LA Lakers are interested in Chris Paul and Deron Williams first and Dwight Howard second. It's pretty easy to see why the Lakers would be interested in the two superstar floor generals. They currently have the ineffective Derek Fisher and Steve Blake as the team's two point guards. Not only that, the Lakers have plenty of familiarity with each player.Chris Paul averaged 22 points, 11.5 assists, and 6.7 boards a game against the Lakers in the first round pretty much single-handedly taking the series to six games. On Los Angeles' two past championship runs, the Utah Jazz fell victim to Kobe and Pau early with Deron Williams being their only sign of resistance. READ MORE: Kris Humphries Good Fit For CelticsNow, obviously every Laker fans dream would be to steal Paul or Williams without giving up Pau Gasol or Andrew Bynum, but that's not going to happen. In order to acquire one of the two point guards, Gasol or Bynum would have to be surrendered. With rumors this offseason continuing to float around involving Pau and Bynum being labeled "untouchable", you would have to imagine the Spaniard would be the key piece of any trade.New Jersey isn't going to trade Deron Williams after they just traded for him so he's out of the question to acquire this season. If the Hornets finally realize Paul is as good as gone, they'll trade him before the trade deadline. There aren't many teams, if any at all, that can match a Lakers offer that involves Pau Gasol. The New York Knicks have no such thing. If the Lakers remain patient and don't bite dealing Pau to a team like Minnesota, Chris Paul could be theirs.
