Rockets, Knicks, and Kings plan for future: NBA Trade Analysis

A three-way trade involving the Houston Rockets, New York Knicks, and the Sacramento Kings sent star Kings guard Kevin Martin to the Rockets and often-injured Rockets forward Tracy McGrady to the Knicks. This trade has many positives and only a few negatives, so let's break it down... Rockets Receive G Kevin Martin, F Jordan Hill, F Jared Jefferies, F/C Hilton Armstrong, Knicks' 2011 first-round draft pick (Top 1 Protected), and Knicks' 2012 first-round draft pick (Top 5 Protected) Knicks Receive F Tracy McGrady, G Sergio Rodriguez Kings Receive F Carl Landry, F Joey Dorsey, and G Larry Hughes Rockets' Analysis As much as many people think this is a great deal for the Rockets, I just don't see it. The Rockets have built their nucleus for a 2011 championship run around the often- injured Yao Ming, Kevin Martin, and Aaron Brooks. That is a solid nucleus, but I just can't see Yao Ming returning to be as good as he was before the injury and now, the rest of Rockets look like a bunch of role players. They have no players that are outstanding in their positions, and I believe this team will get squashed next year by the Lakers, Nuggets, and Mavs. The inclusion of Jordan Hill and the two first-round picks makes it a little sweeter. But I just don't think the talent is there for a championship. Also, many Rockets fans are telling me that they are definitely signing Chris Bosh, which would by far make them the best team in the West. I disagree because with Kevin Martin's huge contract, Yao Ming's $17 million option, Ariza's $6 million contract, and Jared Jefferies' $7 million, there is no way they can afford to spend that much money this summer. However, even if they did sign Bosh, I still don't believe they would be the best team in the West. Knicks' Analysis I actually really like this deal for the Knicks. Yes, they did have to give up a ton to get cap relief, but I would rather have the ability to sign Lebron and D-Wade over keeping Jordan Hill and two first-round picks. This gives them enough to sign two-max free agents, which I think will make them very good. And then next year, when Eddy Curry's big contract ends, the Knicks will be able to sign a third star to make this team the championship contender that every New York team should be. Kings' Analysis I think the Kings did a good job. It was definitely time to finally move Kevin Martin to a contending team, and they got quite a bit for him while they could. Carl Landry will make a huge difference and will be part of a terrific tandem with PG Tyreke Evans. With the nucleus of Landry and Evans and the cap space in this deal, the team could be special with something done in the summer. Conclusion The Rockets may have gotten the best players and picks in the deal, but I think the Knicks won this one as they clear even more space for another max free agent.Read more NBA news on BleacherReport.com
