The Schmo & The Pro with Suns' Devin Booker

The LA Clippers don't make a lot of sense sometimes. They were so wack in road losses in Detroit (without Reggie Jackson), Indiana (without Paul George), and Brooklyn (without Jeremy Lin). It seemed like they were going to limp through their longest road trip of the season when they visited Cleveland on Thursday night. But the Clippers smacked the Cavaliers, one night before they would end their road trip in New Orleans. The Clippers gave 32-year-old SG J.J. Redick a rest day, one night after leading the team with 23 points. Didn't see that coming! Clippers wrap season-long road trip tonight in New Orleans. We know you're here for Blake Griffin/Anthony Davis, but what's the X-Factor? #8212; ClipperBlog (@clipperblog) December 2, 2016 Tonight's Starting 5????@CP3??@RFeltonGBMS ??@mbahamoute??@blakegriffin32 ??@deandrejordan6?? #PrimeTicket?? #FOXSportsGO#ItTakesEverything pic.twitter.com/Tfj6dThAKr #8212; LA Clippers (@LAClippers) December 3, 2016 The Clippers, with Felton in the starting lineup for the first time, closed out their road trip with a 114-96 win in New Orleans. Clippers PF Blake Griffin outdueled Pelicans PF Anthony Davis, scoring 27 points and adding 10 rebounds for his 6th 20-10 game this season and first since November 19 vs the Bulls. Much like the previous night in Cleveland, the Clippers got off to a relatively slow start, trailing New Orleans 30-25 at the end of the 1st quarter. New Orleans made 57.1 percent from the field in the 1st quarter, including 3-of-5 from three, while the Clippers shot only 11-of-26 from the field (42.3 percent) while missing all 5 three-point attempts. A 6-0 run by the Pelicans was capped by a Terrence Jones dunk with 7:18 left in the 2nd quarter to give New Orleans a 44-35 lead. It would be their largest of the game, and they would lose it by halftime, as Clippers head coach Doc Rivers went with a lineup of his starters and Jamal Crawford to close the 1st half on a 25-13 run. LA led 60-57 at halftime, with Paul (in his latest return to his original NBA city) having 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 7 assists without a turnover at the half. Griffin did his work in the 3rd quarter. After a first half that saw him score a game-high 16 points, Griffin had the scope out on Davis, hitting 4 jumpers over his outstretched arms and scoring 11 3rd quarter points on 5-of-8 FGs. Davis played the entire 3rd quarter, but the Clippers led 89-76 at the end of the period. Griffin didn't take a shot in the 4th quarter and the Clippers didn't take a FT, but Crawford made a couple more threes to close things out, part of a season-high 21-point scoring effort. In the process, Crawford joined Dell Curry as the only players to make 1,000 threes off the bench. With this 3??, @JCrossover becomes the 2nd player in @NBA history (Dell Curry) to make over 1,000 3PT-FG as a reserve.#ItTakesEverything pic.twitter.com/ZCF9eUOhiC #8212; LA Clippers (@LAClippers) December 3, 2016 This was total domination by the Clippers after the 7:18 mark in the 2nd quarter, and they finished this game with more rebounds (46-41) and fewer turnovers (9-14) than New Orleans while shooting better from the field (51.1% to 46.4%), from three (10-24, 41.7% to 5-20, 25.0%), and from the stripe (14-16, 87.5% to 13-21, 61.9%). The starters crushed it whether Felton (41.4 net rating in 14 minutes) or Crawford (81.1 net rating in 14 minutes) were in the lineup. Jordan had a strong night, grabbing 13 rebounds and blocking 2 shots, while Mbah a Moute matched his season high with 15 points on 5-of-9 FGs. Paul finished a couple rebounds shy of a triple-double (17 points, 8 rebounds, 13 assists). Griffin and Jordan outrebounded New Orleans' entire starting lineup 23-19. Overall, this was a great way for the Clippers to even up what was a challenging road trip at 3-3, and now they get a shot at revenge Sunday night against the Pacers. At home! That being said, Doc Rivers thinks the team should be aiming higher for future road trips. We think were better than that. I think were better than that, Rivers said. I dont think we should go .500 on a road trip. I think we should do better than that. I think our guys would believe that, so were asking a lot, but if you want to be special, you have to ask a lot of them.
